A James Beard Foundation–recognized chef and global restaurateur, Jarrett Wrisley builds bold, culturally rooted dining experiences shaped by decades of work across Asia and the United States.

Jarrett Wrisley is a chef, restaurateur, and cookbook author whose career has been shaped by more than two decades living, cooking, and writing throughout Asia. After spending a decade working in mainland China, he moved to Bangkok in 2008, where he opened several acclaimed restaurants including Soul Food Mahanakorn and Appia. His restaurant projects have also included Soul Food Thai in Hong Kong and Shan in Bozeman, Montana.

Wrisley has spent nearly 20 years researching and documenting the culinary traditions of Thailand, China, and Italy through both his restaurants and written work. He is the author of The Roads to Rome, published by Penguin Random House in 2020.

Following 22 years in Asia, Wrisley returned to the United States after the pandemic and opened Shan in Bozeman in April 2023. Inspired by the mountain cuisines of Northern Thailand and Southwest China, Shan was named a finalist for Best New Restaurant in the 2024 James Beard Foundation Awards. Wrisley received his second James Beard nomination in 2026 for Best Chef: Mountain.

He lives in Montana with his wife, Candice, and their son, August.
