At The Vineyard House, Napa Valley’s history is not just preserved—it is actively carried forward. Established in 1889 as part of the original holdings of H.W. Crabb, founder of the legendary To Kalon vineyard, this Oakville estate represents one of the foundational sites of Napa Valley winemaking. Today, proprietor Jeremy Nickel continues that legacy, balancing preservation of the land’s history with a forward-thinking commitment to innovation and quality.

Set within the Halter Valley of western Oakville, the 43-acre estate—22 acres under vine—rests on well-drained soils composed of volcanic and sedimentary gravel formed over millennia from the Mayacamas Range. Surrounded by some of Napa Valley’s most iconic vineyard sites, the property is uniquely positioned to produce wines of depth, structure, and balance.

Viticulture is led by renowned vineyard manager Jim Barbour, whose five decades of Napa Valley experience guide a meticulous, block-by-block approach to farming. The estate is cultivated with a focus on sustainability and long-term stewardship: synthetic inputs are avoided in favor of organic practices, sheep grazing replaces conventional weed control, and owl boxes provide natural pest management. Cover crops support soil health, erosion is mitigated through careful vineyard management, and the property is Fish Friendly Farming certified, with drip irrigation systems designed to eliminate runoff and protect surrounding ecosystems.

In the cellar, acclaimed winemakers Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky bring precision and restraint to the process, applying a minimal-intervention philosophy that allows the character of the vineyard to define each wine. Production remains intentionally limited, focused on Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, and Petit Verdot—each crafted to express the distinct identity of this historic estate.

This year at Telluride Reserve, guests will have the opportunity to meet Charlie Plummer, Global Director of Sales at The Vineyard House. A Certified Sommelier and Certified Specialist of Wine, Charlie brings a multidisciplinary background spanning hospitality, distribution, and winery leadership, with experience across some of Napa Valley’s most respected estates. His perspective offers a rare, insider view into both the wines and the philosophy behind them, enriching the experience with depth, context, and connection.

Featured selections at Telluride Reserve include wines from both The Vineyard House and Jeremy Nickel Cellars, highlighting the breadth of the estate’s expression across varietals and vintages.

Together, The Vineyard House represents a seamless intersection of heritage and modern excellence—an estate where Napa Valley’s past informs every decision, and where each vintage continues to build on a legacy more than a century in the making.
